An Even Better HoustonAn Even Better Urban Agenda

Houston is a big place. While many of our suburbs and outlying communities are prospering, many of our inner city and underserved communities are lagging. What plagues these communities can’t be fixed with a “one-size-fits-all” approach – that’s why we are introducing our “Urban Agenda”.

*Utilize a robust private/public partnership network to provide incentives for corporate, retail, and residential development into Houston’s underserved communities.

*Spurn development by increasing the flow of TIRZ tax dollars into underserved communities.

*Work closely with district Council Members to push for the equitable disbursement of Council funds to underserved communities.

*Develop an agile “Urban Coalition” of community and business leaders, as well as non-profits and community organizations to better understand community needs and plan future urban development.

*Fight “food deserts” by recruiting brand name grocery stores and community markets to establish a presence in these communities.

*Take a “downtown-out” approach by pushing the development of downtown into neighboring areas – 4th Ward, East Downtown, Near Northside, Midtown, etc.
